G. Brian Karas is a prolific and versatile illustrator and writer of many children’s books including Atlantic, an ALA Notable Book, Saving Sweetness by Diane Stanley, and the Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor Book, Home on the Bayou. The New York Times describes his work as “… depicted in a childlike style that belies the sophistication of the drawings. Exquisite and moving in its subtlety.” His book with Candace Fleming, Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!, won the California Young Readers Medal, and his collaboration with Margaret McNamara, How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? (Schwartz & Wade), was awarded the Christopher Medal.
Among Brian Karas’s current books are Young Zeus (Scholastic Press) and Village Garage (Henry Holt). His recent book for Schwartz & Wade, Clever Jack Takes the Cake, also by Candace Fleming, has received four starred reviews, which pretty much takes the cake.
