SAMANTHA BERGER has always loved children’s books, cartoons, and comics. She grew up to create all three. Her picture book series, illustrated by Bruce Whatley — about an obstreperous otter named Martha — launched with Martha Doesn’t Say Sorry, in May, 2009 and received a Parents’ Choice Award. The sequel, Martha Doesn’t Share, released in fall 2010. Both are published by Little, Brown.
Samantha has also created many award-winning shorts and PSAs for Nickelodeon over the past ten years, and was a Vice President in the Nick Animation Studio before turning to writing full-time.
When she isn’t creating work for kids, she likes to travel the world, seeing as much as she can and trying to help as much as possible. Samantha shares her life with her sweet dog Polly Pocket, who loves down comforters, popcorn, and Bugs Bunny, just as much as she does. Samantha’s Santa’s Reindeer Games, a picture book about the fun Santa’s reindeer have when they’re off duty, was published by Scholastic in fall, 2011. She’s just completed work on Crakenstein, about a very cranky little boy, illustrated by Dan Santat (Little, Brown, 2013). Next up is Witch Spa (Dial), a picture book about the blissful place witches go to relax after a stressful Halloween; then Snoozefest (also Dial); and after that…we shall see.
Samantha just moved to Brooklyn, New York. With Polly Pocket, of course. Visit her here.
